The bipolar membrane is a kind of ion exchange membrane composed of positive and negative membranes. Both anions and cations cannot penetrate the membrane, and dissociate water into H+ and OH− ions, which migrate from the cation exchange layer and anion exchange layer respectively under the action of a positive DC electric field.
The bipolar membrane technology commonly used in chemical reactions such as water electrolysis, bipolar membrane eletrodialysis（BMED） is widely applied in resource utilization of salty solutions, conversion of organic acids and organic alkali, food industry, etc.
